Garage Door Replacement for a Flip Remodel Project

Patrick and his wife Bethany bought a house that they planned to flip, or remodel and put back on the market again.

As you might know, if you are flipping a house you want a quick turnaround time and you want to get the house in proper shape for reselling. For this old home, that meant a FULL gut job and repair, including the garage door.

The garage door when Patrick and Bethany purchased it was falling apart. The door itself was made of wood and had rotted in many places.

Not only was the door not safe, but repairing it was out of the question. It needed to be replaced. But Patrick and Bethany didn’t want to blow the budget on a new door. It needed to be safe and functional, but that’s it!

As you can see in the photos above, the door is really not looking good!

Once we got to the site and understood the project, we also realized that the opening was not a standard size that would fit a garage door on the market. So in addition to getting and installing a new door, we would need to adjust the wood frame around the door to fit the new garage door.

Patrick and Bethany chose this 25 gauge steel garage door in white by UDT.

The 25 gauge steel offers great durability and insulation, especially for the price.

In addition to the new garage door, we installed a garage door spring. Since the door is a 1 car garage opening, we installed only 1 spring. We always recommend installing 2 springs for a 2 car garage door or a very heavy 1 car garage door.

We installed brand new tracks as well.

The only thing left to do is paint the trim around the garage and it’s a big improvement for this flip project!
